Originally owned by the Knobloch family for over 13 years, Excel Fundraising was established with the mission to provide top-notch fundraising solutions to local groups. In 2020, new owners took the reins: Dawnette Moehling and Carrie Ash. These two were ready to begin a new chapter and bring a fresh perspective and renewed energy to the business.

Dawnette’s journey into the world of fundraising was somewhat unexpected. With a background in real estate, corporate America, and marketing, she was always intrigued by the idea of owning her own business. Something her friend Carrie knew very well. Carrie, who had been friends with the Knoblochs for years, approached Dawnette about a potential partnership after she learned the family was selling their dealership. Dawnette saw this as the perfect chance to combine her professional skills with her passion for helping others.

Dawnette and Carrie were particularly drawn to the quality and appeal of the Butter Braid® Pastries. After meeting with people behind the Butter Braid brand and learning about their values and incredible Dealer Network, they both knew they had found the right place to invest their time and energy. Dawnette and Carrie became the new owners of Excel Fundraising in January 2020.

Changes to the Dealership

Since taking over Excel Fundraising, Dawnette and Carrie have implemented several significant changes to enhance and streamline operations. One of the most impactful updates has been the addition of the online store. This feature has transformed how their groups engage with fundraising. It allows sellers to promote their own personal online store link via email, text, or social media. The platform also allows supporters to order and pay online using a credit card or mobile wallet. With about half of their business being conducted online, this feature has been a major draw in the San Diego area.

Another key change has been the modification of order forms and the introduction of new marketing materials. Dawnette’s focus on clarity and simplicity led to the development of a streamlined tool kit for groups, ensuring that fundraising materials are direct, uncluttered, and easy to use. This attention to detail has been extremely beneficial to group leaders, who appreciate the user-friendly approach.

Fundraising Groups

For Dawnette and Carrie, the most rewarding part of owning Excel Fundraising is the ability to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their groups. Their dedication to customer service is driven by the genuine desire to ease the fundraising process for everyone involved. Dawnette, particularly, loves the model of constantly asking, “How can we make it as easy as possible for group leaders?” and being a valuable resource for them.
