October is here which means it’s time for a new “Dealership Spotlight” feature! This month, we’re treating you with a post all about another, new addition to the Butter Braid® Fundraising team. Precision Pastry, operating in the heart of Lynden, Washington, was established in the summer of 2021. Owned and operated by Rachel and Stephen Dykstra, Precision Pastry has wasted no time in making its mark on the fundraising scene. In just a few years, Precision Pastry has distinguished itself with deliciously simple fundraising programs and its unwavering commitment to helping groups achieve their goals.
History
Rachel and Stephen Dykstra’s journey with Butter Braid Pastries began as fundraising parents. The couple have been blessed with four children, and, during their school years, their kids were involved in several different fundraisers. One program, however, certainly stood out from the rest. That was the Butter Braid Pastry program. The Dykstras fell in love with the delicious pastries and were excited to learn how the program helped groups and communities throughout the nation raise funds.
The Dykstras also had another connection to the pastries. Stephen was a childhood friend of the son of Dee and Howard Van Beek, the former owners of HowDee Fundraising. HowDee Fundraising was the exclusive Butter Braid Pastry dealership in Washington for many years. Rachel worked with the couple often as a group leader in charge of planning and executing fundraisers. During this time partnering with Dee and Howard, she got very familiar with the different aspects of running a fundraising dealership.
In 2021, Dee and Howard decided it was time for them to retire and pass their business on to a new generation. They knew Rachel and Stephen would be the perfect successors to carry on their fundraising legacy. The timing of the offer was perfect for Rachel as she had recently lost her full-time job of 19 years with the Lynden Tribune newspaper due to her role becoming obsolete in the wake of COVID-19. So, after talking it over, the couple decided it was the right move for them. In the summer of 2021, Rachel and Stephen opened Precision Pastry in their town of Lynden, Washington.
Why Name the Business Precision Pastry?
Precision Pastry is not Rachel and Stephen’s first business. In fact, the couple also own a local construction company in Washington called Precision Built. Rachel still manages the bookkeeping side of the business while Stephen handles most of the rest. Precision Built means a lot to the Dykstra family. When it came time for the couple to take over HowDee Fundraising, they wanted their first business to be connected to their new one. That’s how HowDee Fundraising came to be known as Precision Pastry.
Fundraising Groups
For Rachel and Stephen, the most rewarding part of their job is witnessing the sheer excitement on the faces of those receiving their pastry deliveries. It’s a moment of pure joy when groups see the results of their hard work and dedication. Rachel says she feels blessed to have the opportunity to play a role in achieving that joy for her groups. It’s why she and Stephen work so hard every day to streamline processes, improve their programs, and grow the business…to provide their groups with everything they need to run a simple and successful fundraiser.
Since its start, Precision Pastry has played a pivotal role in helping groups all across Washington achieve their fundraising goals. These funds have been used to support a variety of causes, including educational trips, dance competitions, new uniforms, and mission trips.
What the Dykstras are Looking Forward to with Precision Pastry
Rachel and Stephen are excited for the future of Precision Pastry. “This business has so much potential to do good,” Rachel explains. “These last few years we’ve been working on getting more people in the area familiar with the products and services we offer. It’s about really showing them how we can help their groups achieve great things for themselves and their community. Each year, more and more people are learning about Precision Pastry and Butter Braid Pastries and that is a big win for us. I can’t wait to see how much more good we can share in the coming years.”
