Ingredients

  • 1 Apple Butter Braid® Pastry
  • Batter:
    • 3 eggs
    • 1/2 c. milk
    • Dash of cinnamon
    • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Syrup:
    • 1-2 Granny Smith apples, peeled & chopped
    • 1 tsp. butter
    • 3/4 c. caramel
    • 1/2 c. maple syrup
  • Whipped Topping:
    • 2 c. whipping cream
    • 1/2 c. powdered sugar
    • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Step-By-Step Directions

  1. The night before you want to make your Caramel Apple French Toast, take out your frozen Apple Pastry and cut it in half. Stack one half on top of the other in a bread loaf pan. Let rise for 8-12 hours or until doubled in size.
  2. The next morning, bake your pastry in the bread loaf pan in the oven at 350°F until golden brown, approx. 20 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. Slice the loaf into 9 slices.
  4. Prepare the batter by mixing eggs, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Dip each slice of pastry into the batter, turning to coat evenly on both sides.
  5. Cook bread slices on lightly greased griddle or skillet on medium heat until cooked through and browned on both sides.
  6. Now, prepare the syrup. Peel and chop 1-2 apples then sauté them in a saucepan with butter until they start to soften.
  7. Add the caramel and maple syrup to the saucepan, heating just until the caramel melts.
  8. Finally, make the whipped topping by whipping together whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon using a mixer. Start the mixer on low speed until all ingredients are incorporated. Then, gradually increase the speed to high until soft peaks form.
  9. Drizzle the syrup on your Caramel Apple French Toast and top with a dollop of whipped topping. Enjoy!

Tips for Making Caramel Apple French Toast

  • You can substitute the Granny Smith apples for your favorite kind of apple. We recommend choosing one that will hold its shape during cooking like Honey Crisp or Fuji.
  • Store any leftovers (preferably without toppings) in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap before putting them in the refrigerator. They can stay like this for 4-5 days.
