The leaves are beginning to fall, and autumn has officially arrived which means it’s time for a new “Dealership Spotlight”. For September, we’re featuring Show Me Dough Fundraising, a Missouri-based fundraising dealership, that has been selling Butter Braid® Pastries for almost 30 years. The team at Show Me Dough have made it their mission to make the fundraising process as profitable and painless as possible. They are always there, making sure their groups have everything they need and dedicating themselves to enriching the lives of people throughout the community.
History
Marlyn and Lu Moen didn’t begin their journey with the Butter Braid brand looking to start a new business. In the early 1990s, Marlyn was working for a local company and Lu was a stay-at-home mom. However, the company Marlyn was working for suddenly went bankrupt. Lu had just given birth to twins, growing their family from three to five, so the Moens needed a new way to make a living. That’s when they remembered a treat they had purchased not too long before.
Marlyn and Lu had recently tried a Blueberry & Cream Cheese Butter Braid Pastry. It was the most delicious pastry they’d ever had! The unique product stuck with them, and they thought it could be the start of a great, new opportunity. Eager to find out more, they traveled to West Bend, IA to meet the pastry’s creators, Ken and Marlene Banwart. Ken and Marlene told them all about the Butter Braid Pastries and how they were available exclusively in fundraisers. The Moens were inspired by the company’s mission to “Share the Good” and decided this was exactly what they were looking for. Soon after, in April 1993, Marlyn and Lu Moen opened Show Me Dough Fundraising in O’Fallon, Missouri.
Changes to the Dealership
Show Me Dough has greatly expanded their programs to better serve local fundraising groups. One of the new services they added is pre-sorting orders before delivery. The owners say this has been transformational for their business, and groups love how easy delivery is now. The Show Me Dough team simply shows up with each order boxed and sorted by seller, so it’s ready for distribution. The Moens are always looking for new ways to better serve the people they work with, so new features like this are constantly being added to their fundraisers.
Fundraising Groups
Marlyn, Lu, and their team truly enjoy helping people raise money. For them, it’s very rewarding to see their groups and organizations reach their goals. Over the years, the dealership has helped groups raise money for band trips, competitions, grad nights, cancer awareness events, sports leagues, travel fees, therapy programs, and so much more. Their dedication to helping the community is how Show Me Dough has helped raise over $20 million for many great, local causes.
Groups love working with Show Me Dough because the dealership never fails to provide the best support. Cat, a program manager at a St. Charles County non-profit, said, “We use Show Me Dough a couple times a year for our fundraising events. Everything from pre-sale, product questions, products, delivery, and post-delivery follow up couldn’t have been more professional. Show Me Dough makes the entire fundraising process easy by offering a good variety and lots of great-tasting products. Our families, employees, and staff look forward to selling and eating only the best…and Show Me Dough continues to deliver just that.”
Words of Wisdom
After almost 30 years in the fundraising business, the Moens have compiled some great pieces of advice that they love to share with people:
- Diesel trucks like diesel fuel, not gasoline.
- Make sure you always order enough product, or you’ll find yourself doing double deliveries at Christmas.
To hear the whole story behind these words of wisdom, reach out to Marly and Lu. They’re always more than happy to share their experiences and fundraising expertise with those who want to learn more.
Show Me Dough Fundraising has been a great addition to the Butter Braid Fundraising family, and we are very thankful to have them with us for the last three decades. Marlyn, Lu, and their team have been devoted to helping others “Share the Good” and plan to continuing doing so for many years to come.
