Dealership Spotlight: Hometown Pastries

Are you ready for February’s “Dealership Spotlight” post? This month, we’re excited to take you to New Braunfels, TX and introduce you to Hometown Pastries. Hometown Pastries is a family-owned business that joined the Butter Braid® Fundraising team in 2003. For over two decades, owners Julie and Roger Krug have made a positive impact in their community with their easy-to-run fundraising programs. Now, their son Travis and his wife, Robyn, are ready to continue their legacy of spreading joy, warmth, and deliciousness to groups in need.

History

Julie and Roger Krug’s journey with Butter Braid Pastries began as many dealership owners’ stories do…as fundraising parents. The couple initially sought out the delicious, hand-braided product as a potential program their daughter’s school could run to raise money for their post-graduation party. However, there were no Butter Braid Pastry dealerships in their area. Instead of seeing this as a challenge, the Krug family saw it as an opportunity.

You see, at the time, Julie worked full-time at their church as a youth minister, and Roger ran a construction business. The couple had been thinking about shaking things up with their careers for a while and finding out the Butter Braid brand was looking for someone to open a dealership right in their area…it was a sign the two couldn’t ignore. Roger left his job in construction to open Hometown Pastries in 2003. Neither Julie nor Roger knew it at the time, but this commitment to support local causes would grow in the years to follow from a humble endeavor to a full-fledged family business.

Changes to the Dealership

Initially, Roger ran most aspects of the fundraising dealership on his own while getting help from Julie with the bookkeeping. In 2019, Julie retired from her youth ministry position and took over all the marketing, customer service, and scheduling duties at Hometown Pastries.

By 2023, Julie and Roger were seriously considering retirement. For over twenty years, they’d been supporting groups in the community and building up their dealership. Now, it was time for Hometown Pastries to be passed on to the next generation. And Julie and Roger knew exactly who would take it over.

Fast forward to 2024, and a new chapter is beginning for Hometown Pastries. Travis Krug, Julie and Roger’s son, and his wife, Robyn, are the new co-owners of this Texas-based fundraising dealership. Travis and Robyn bring fresh energy and a renewed commitment to the community they call home. For this young couple, taking over the dealership was more than just a business decision; it was a continuation of a family tradition deeply rooted in helping others and “Sharing the Good”.

Fundraising Groups

For every member of the Krug family, the most rewarding part of their job comes from the positive feedback they receive from groups and supporters. The encouraging testimonials and heart-felt “thank yous” remind them of how much their contributions mean to the amazing groups and special causes in their community.

The increasing number of heart-warming stories shared by groups, from sports teams to local charities, are a testament to the impact of Hometown Pastries. One high school band parent and fundraising chair wrote, “Hometown Pastries is excellent to do business with when it comes to our fundraising needs. We have been doing business with them since 2014, and every year we return to them for our fall fundraiser. As long as I am involved with the band fundraisers, we will continue to give our business to Hometown Pastries.”
